Charleston wildlife control tip of the month: Opossum disease - a closer look - This marsupial, the opossum, is not a creature to be messed with when it comes to disease. Although the most popular disease among wild animals, rabies, is not a concern because the body temperature of the animal is too low for the virus to thrive in, there is still a great deal of other problems that you will have to concern yourself with. When you bear this in mind, you may think it would be a wise move to call on a wildlife expert in order to help you get this animal out, as well as cleaning up after it, rather than running the risk of disease by doing it all yourself. Reader mail feedback: Hello Wildlife Removal USA, I have read your website several times in order to catch what seems like a squirrel in my attic. We have been hearing scratching noses in the attic for wks during day and or night. The shape of our roof was modified last year (2 months of construction) and I discovered yesterday they left a small gap between the soffit and the stone wall. I taped saran wrap on the little open space in order to make sure they enter-exit through there and 5hrs later there was a hole in it - busted! However, we have tried for several days to catch it in a live trap in the attic but like you mentioned, it is nearly impossible to do so there.. Something was eating the peanut butter with either the cage closing with nothing in it or peanut butter was eaten from the side of the cage. Therefore we placed mice traps near the cage and also caught 2 little mice. However the scratching nose is loud enough and we still think it's due to a squirrel, especially with the hole outside.. Therefore I am about to install the trap near the open space in the soffit. I want to attach it on a ladder having the cage leveled and high on the wall next that entry-exit point. (don't really want to damage the new and black soffit-faciat by bolting the cage in it..) Let say I catch one but do not see or cannot see if it a female (nipples), how do I know there are babies still in there? Do I setup the trap again for another one? Or for maybe a whole family of squirrels? I am not sure what are the detailed steps after discovering the entry-exit point and making sure there isn't any live animals left in the attic before sealing the crack between the stone wall & soffit. Can babies be down walls? I can't even go there... . and can't imagine not resolving the problem myself. FYI - My husband went in the attic (practically a crawling space that goes around an office on the 2nd floor of our small house) and saw tiny pieces of poop (resembling of mice poop) and 2-3 places with a few leaves here and there with samara. He also noticed insulated foam that was either scratched or eaten on the surface (1ft x 1ft scratched). Your help is much appreciated!
