Opossum on the Roof - How to Get Them Off

The noise of an opossum scampering around on your roof or in your attic is going to be one of the most annoying noises you will ever hear. It would seem that this creature is making fun of you, knowing that you cannot easily get to it, and removal is going to come with some serious hard work on your part. Thankfully, opossum proofing your roof is not going to be a difficult task once you have the know-how; information that we are going to share with you right now!

Opossums on the roof – Firstly, you are going to need to figure out problematic areas. Are there holes in your roof that the opossum can gain access to your home through? These are going to need to be blocked up with a material that the creature cannot claw or gnaw through.

Are there trees or fences near your roof that gives the opossum access? These animals are expert climbers and will think nothing of jumping around on a few branches to get access to your home via the attic. If you have trees with branches that lead the way, have them cut down and make sure that your creature cannot use fencing as a way of climbing up and beyond. They can jump, so bear this in mind.

You can use lighting to ward off particularly annoying opossums, although this is not always guaranteed to work, and you could also consider using various repellants, but in all fairness, most of these have proved to be a complete waste of money. You can use disinfectant to remove the animals scent from your property – this will discourage it from coming back.

Opossums on the roof - opossum proofing: That animal that is scampering around in your attic or on your roof right now; it is annoying you? You wouldn’t be the only person to believe that this creature was making fun of you – making lots of noise deliberately to keep you awake when you are trying to sleep! Getting rid of animals, like the opossum, can be a hard task, but with a bit of knowledge and a few hints and tips, you may find that possum proofing your roof needn’t be as difficult as you first may have thought.

The first thing that you need to do is take a look at the top of your home and check out where these animals are managing to get into your home. You might think that everything is fine, but it could be the smallest of holes that they are gaining access with, and once you have blocked these holes with something that the opossum cannot claw or nibble their way through, you can prevent the invasion of this creature, and many other wild animals.

Once you have done this, you need to look at how your opossum is getting to the top layers of your home. It could be that a tree with branches is leading the way in a drawbridge fashion, or a fencing panel is giving the creature easy access. These animals can both climb and jump, so the further away these things are, the harder it will be for the possum.

There are a whole bunch of deterrents and repellents on the market that you could use, as well as lighting to keep the animal away, but the former have mostly proved to be pretty much useless, and the latter doesn’t work in all cases. It has been shown that strong disinfectant can help to remove the animal’s scent, which could work to confuse the animal and encourage it to go away.
