How to use one-way exclusion funnels to remove opossums

One-way exclusion funnels are very effective in trapping opossums and removing them from private residences safely. One-way exclusion are non-lethal traps, therefore they do not cause serious injuries or death to the animal, and the traps are made in such a way that the animal can be removed easily without harming it. One-way exclusion funnels can be used virtually anywhere, including the attic, and isolated places such as the garage, deck, garden, and patios.

It is very easy to set up a one-way exclusion funnel; the trap can be mounted on the entry and exit holes used by the animal. The larger end of the trap is placed over the hole while the narrow funnel is placed on the outside- this arrangement makes the trap unsuspecting to the animal. As the animal runs into the trap and tries to get out through the other way, it becomes too narrow for it, and it becomes trapped.

The exclusion funnel may come with flanges or wings at one end and this component is used to mount the funnel at the entry or exit hole of the animal. There may also be a torsion spring that can be used in holding the narrow funnel of the other end. One-way exclusion funnel is used to trap the targeted animal only; therefore smaller animals will not be trapped. In some cases, the exclusion funnel trap may allow the Opossums to find their way back, therefore they wouldn’t return through the same route.

Most exclusion funnels will only grab Opossums, only when the animal tries to force its way through, however intelligent ones will eventually find their ways back if the funnel is too narrow. The exclusion funnel is normally made of strong and durable stainless steel, thus the Opossum cannot chew its away out.

When you eventually trap an Opossum through the exclusion funnel, you must ensure that you relocate the animal immediately. Do not try to feed or give medical attention to the animal because it can bite and spread infection. Make sure you follow due regulation when relocating the trapped animal, and ensure that you don’t relocate it to another residential area where it can cause environmental hazards. Opossums are known to be intelligent animal, and they can find their ways back to place where they were relocated from, therefore it is important to transport them away as far as possible.
