How to keep raccoons out of my bird feeder

Raccoons are able to do anything they can so that they may steal the food away of the bird feeders when they are able to do so. The raccoons have a good night vision with acrobatic and hearing skills. They have the paws that look like fingers and they can use them to handle or to manipulate different things which may be of their interest. The raccoon is able to unhook and unscrew different things like you are able to do so. When there is a feeder that has been hung, it will be an easy target. The pole mounted feeder may not be safe around the raccoons since they are able to climb the pole and they can jump or drop at a high level.

If you want to keep the raccoons away of the feeder, you can use the following tips.

Use the squirrel baffle over the pole mounted system: when the feeder has been mounted on the pole, you should use the baffle near four feet over the ground. When the raccoon will not be able to climb such pole and they will not reach the feeder. You should keep in your mind that the poles should not be closer to the trees since the raccoons may use rooftops and the hanging branches to reach to the feeder. Wild animals are not the ones that can be kept as pets in homes. These are also not allowed to be entered in homes, attic, or any place where the human are to move about. This is just because of the threats and dangers which is caused by the wild animal’s presence.

You should not put the feeders in the trees. When the raccoon are common in your place, hanging the feeder in the tree will not be a good idea. The cables or hooks may be used to secure the feeder so that the raccoon does not take it down but this does not mean that it will not be able to reach to the feeder and to get the seed out.

You can also bring the feeders inside during the night. Even if it may seem that it is a hard work to have to bring inside the feeder inside every night, you can still do it to protect the feeders against the raccoons. The birds do eat during the day and the raccoons are nocturnal so taking inside the feeder will not be a problem to the birds. You should also use a sealed feeder.
