Do mothballs or ammonia help repel raccoons?

Raccoons are very cute animals especially when they stay away from your property or when they get defensive of their own family. They also loose that cute factor when they are turned into pests tearing up your home and turning it upside down. They have very sharp teeth, strong fingers with long claws and this includes the opposable thumb. With their high intelligence, these animals can be able to access almost anything and so you need to discover ways to deal with them. You always need a plan and then follow it through so as to see results.

The raccoons are usually attracted by your yard and what it has to offer. You need to take some preventative measures so as to actually make them stay away. You need to clean up the yard as best as you can. Keep trash cans safely locked away especially at night or make sure they are tightly sealed in a way that the opossum cannot be able to open them. Wild animals are not the ones that can be kept as pets in homes. These are also not allowed to be entered in homes, attic, or any place where the human are to move about. This is just because of the threats and dangers which is caused by the wild animal’s presence.

Usually, many people recommend the use of repellents especially ammonia and mothballs. The companies that sell these repellents praise them highly and say that they are effective. However, you need to know that ammonia and mothballs don’t work on the raccoons especially the ones that are too stubborn or mothers with young ones to take care of.

Usually, it is thought that mothballs usually produce an odor that the raccoons love to avoid. However, like other mammals, they will quickly adapt and within no time, they won’t care so much for the smell. Most people recommend the use of the mothballs in the crawlspaces or the attic. However, when in such places, the chemicals can be able to het to other parts of the home and you and your family may be exposed. Pets and children can also ingest them.

Ammonia is also another highly recommended solution that doesn’t work in the removal of the raccoons. Here, you need to soak rags in ammonia and then place them near the entrances to the nest. It is recommended that other areas where the animal has been be sprayed too. This method requires frequent replacement. This method doesn’t really work and so it is not a permanent solution.
