Catching skunk is not an easy activity because you have to do a lot of hard work for this. Most people prefer to catch skunks by using live traps because this appears as a humane thing to do. The most ideal concept in all situations is that you should release the animal at a safe place located at a decent distance from your home. Cover the cage containing skunk in your car and take it to a place located at a distance of at least 10 km from your house. Follow the below mentioned steps before releasing the animal from cage
  • Cover your hands with good quality gloves of leather especially when you are handling the cage. This will provide protection from aggressive attacks of animal also you will be saved from urine and feces.
  • In agitation skunks pound their feet and if you notice this activity, then it’s better to back off because chances are high that skunk will release the spray. Maintaining distance during this time period is the best remedy otherwise you will get exposed to bad odor.
  • In case skunk has noticed your presence near the cage, then don’t highlight it any further. Try to leave a calming influence over the animal.
  • You need to understand the difference between urban and rural skunks because rural skunks are more scared of humans so they will get a bit more aggressive so you need to handle the situation with great care.
  • There are less chances of spray when skunks don’t see you, but caged skunk if handled in an inappropriate fashion will defiantly emit the spray bringing complications.
After releasing the animal you should get back into the car as fast as you can and drive back home. Try to leave the skunk at a place where it can find decent supply of factors that are considered as idea for living.
