How to Kill a Chipmunk?

Chipmunk is a type of ground-dwelling rodent that is a nuisance to homeowners. Once your home is infested with the chipmunks, there are various damages that the little creatures cause. These include burrowing near the rocks and also near the sidewalk of your house. Further, the chipmunk will dig the flower beds and eat the germinating seeds. Lastly, being ground-dwelling creatures, they are going to dig your lawn damaging it. Therefore, it is important to get rid of the chipmunks to avoid the problems they cause. So how do you kill the chipmunks?

Use Lethal Traps against the Chipmunks
To begin with, you can set the traditional snap trap, and it will kill the chipmunks. Just buy a snap trap and use bait to entice the chipmunk to the snap trap. Once the chipmunk comes on the snap trap, the strong spring will trigger the rod and kill the chipmunk. The advantage of the traditional snap trap is that it kills the chipmunks easily and effectively without torturing the little creature. Therefore it is among the humane methods of killing the chipmunks.

You can buy the traditional snap trap from the local stores. It is easy to use, cheap and light to carry. However, the disadvantage is that if a person steps on the snap trap, it will be very painful and hurts. Therefore when setting the snap trap make sure there are no people living near the place or using that area. It is also good to communicate there is a trap set there.

Use a Bucket of Water to Kill the Chipmunk
The second lethal trap is setting a bucket of water and using it to kill the chipmunk. Fill a bucket with water and use dry seeds to trick the chipmunk into the water. To effectively do this, pumpkin seeds will be a good option. Place some seeds on the floor/surface just below the bucket, and place a piece of wood vertically to the bucket so that the chipmunk will use the wooden piece as the ladder to the bucket.

Then you need to place at least two seeds on the wood piece and some on top of the water. This is the reason why you needed to use dry seeds so that they float on the surface tricking the chipmunk to jump in to eat them as well. Once the chipmunk comes, it will follow the free food and drowns in the water.

Shooting the Chipmunk to Death
This is the other alternative that you can try. You need a gun, and you also need to be very good at shooting. Therefore, set some bait and preferably dry seeds or nuts on the surface and wait for the chipmunk to come. Aim properly and shoot the chipmunk on the head. This is a humane method since it kills the chipmunk on the spot without having to undergo a painful process. You need to be careful when using the gun so as not to shoot other people passing near the place such as children playing in your compound.

Never use poison to kill a chipmunk since it is a nonhumane method of killing rodents. Alternatively, you can trap using live traps and relocate.
